Homesick...

Sorry folks, I'm posting in English.

As soon as I arrived here in Siena last Friday, Alice Reynolds and I began to talk to each other in English. Southern English, to be precise. Remember? She is from Georgia, and I'm about to be from Tennessee. Gee! We forgot anybody else, and the whole world around, and talk talk talk about us being so homesick...

The faculty meeting has been absolutely great, with our boss Franco Caroni telling us wonderful news about the school, and giving me his personal congratulations for whole that I accomplished in the U.S. Then we started the briefing to introduce the new course, the test, and the auditions. We have now something like 45 new students, very interesting voices and personalities... Then we played a little bit all together, and we had so much fun! To end a perfect day of incredibly hard work, our boss invited us to have dinner at a very good restaurant. Some folks are missing here, like Simona (another voice teacher of my staff), Luca (our secretary), and our boss Franco himself. And yes, we have been drinking a lot, and it shows!!!

Here is Matteo Addabbo, one of our pianists. He frightened us because he had a terrible accident last September, but seems to feel really better now. I personally love him so much, both as a musician and as a friend. Matteo, please never feel bad again, we need you desperately for our happiness!

After this incredible dinner I went back to Siena to meet my ex students Graziana and Pietro, because I'm staying at their place for this whole week. I called them on their cell phone, and they were in piazza del Campo, where the winners of the Palio contest were passing with their drums and flags, celebrating their victory.

The school here in Siena is absolutely wonderful. Again renewed in many aspects, here are some pictures to get a little taste of it.

Yesterday Betta and Romina, two ex students and now fantastic friends of ours, gathered here with me and Luca Necciari, the bass player. We spent the afternoon and part of the evening together walking and sitting in the gardens of the Fortezza, looking at our magnificent school, where so many musical miracles occur...

After a perfect sunset, the moon shined in her full glow. We were in absolute peace, joy, and love for each other.

Finally, we went in the country at Betta's, where her parents prepared for everybody terrific home made pasta ("pappardelle") with the mushrooms they had picked up in the woods, a perfect red wine, and a warm fire burning in the fire place.

Comments:
Homesick...right now, I feel like I haven't got a home at all. Berlin? Siena? the city where I was born? Two places I lost after my childhood? Ich weiss nicht! :-)
Martina
P.S. quanto siete belli! Mi mancate.
